Bergwijn, the Dutch striker who has captained his country to three World Cup finals, is set to make history in Qatar with a hat-trick against Al-Habtoon, as he looks to extend his dominance at the club and national team level.
The 29-year-old, who joined Bergwijn from Ajax in 2017, has already scored four goals for the club this season, including two hat-tricks in the league and one in the Champions League.
He has been on fire for the past few months, scoring nine goals in his last eight games for the club, and has also contributed heavily for the Netherlands national team.
"His goal-scoring ability is unparalleled," said Bergwijn himself, "and I'm sure that he will continue to be a key player for the club and the national team."
With Bergwijn back in action, Al-Habtoon have certainly made a statement by giving him their full support. The match against Bergwijn was a huge boost for the club,Campeonato Brasileiro Action which had been struggling financially due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"It's great to see Bergwijn back in action after such a long absence," said manager Kees van den Hage, "he has always been a strong presence for us and we're looking forward to seeing how he performs against a talented opponent like Al-Habtoon."
Despite being up against a tough opponent, Bergwijn showed no sign of giving up, scoring his fourth goal in the first half before going close to adding another in the second period.
"I think it's important to keep pushing forward and try to score more goals," said Bergwijn, "but it's not about winning every game, but just trying to contribute to the team."
As the match progressed, Bergwijn continued to show his skill and determination, scoring the final goal in extra time to seal the victory for the club.
In total, Bergwijn has now scored 46 goals in his career for the club, and he will be hoping to do so again in Qatar. The victory over Al-Habtoon is a major step towards Bergwijn's future success at the club and the national team.
