Latest update: Allan Saint-Maximin's status in Damac is unknown, as his injuries continue to be a concern.

Allan Saint-Maximin has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a serious injury sustained during Newcastle United's match against Burnley on Monday night.

The France international was replaced off the pitch in the second half after appearing to injure his ankle during a tackle from Burnley's Max Gradel.

Saint-Maximin, who joined Newcastle on loan from Nice last month, had made a positive start to life at St James' Park but this latest setback could see him miss out on a place in the French squad for Euro 2021.

His absence will undoubtedly be a blow to Newcastle's attacking options and manager Steve Bruce will have to find a replacement for the versatile winger.

It remains to be seen whether Saint-Maximin will be able to make a full recovery and return to training ahead of next season, but it seems unlikely that he will be ready to play any part in the Premier League campaign.

In the meantime,Bundesliga Tracking Bruce will need to rely on his other attacking options, including Callum Wilson, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Joelinton, to step up their game if Newcastle want to secure a top-four finish and a Europa League spot.
